Declining amounts of loyalty have undoubtedly contributed to many personal and social problems. But in attempting to reverse this trend, people should keep in mind that loyalty can sometimes be a bad quality.

In debates on whether Ohio’s state motto is unconstitutional, some people pointed out that Abraham Lincoln mentioned God in some of his speeches. Lincoln’s religious views, however, were inconsistent with the motto.

Surprisingly, many people weren’t outraged by Bill Clinton’s perjury in the Paula Jones sexual harassment lawsuit. They apparently don’t understand that his contemptible behavior has the potential to cause severe damage to the justice system and society.

Some Americans think government should have the right to censor opinions that the majority finds offensive and un-American. They overlook the fact that majorities are often wildly mistaken.
