Ohio’s increasing restrictions on liberty are causing people to leave the state, harming its economy, causing its citizens to appear narrow-minded and intolerant, and making the state seem just plain no fun.

By providing federal funds to religious groups that perform social services, President George W. Bush is trampling the American principle of religious freedom. He either doesn’t understand the principle or has little respect for it.

Supporters of honest government and church-state separation should be concerned about the Ohio inspector general’s refusal to investigate a complaint filed by the Freedom From Religion Foundation. His refusal is symptomatic of other problems in Ohio’s state government – particularly a lack of effective oversight of state officials.

A nationally syndicated columnist advocates mandatory national service for young adults. Americans who support such ideas seem to have forgotten the meaning of freedom.

Shortly after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, Christian fundamentalist leaders Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson said liberal advocacy groups deserve part of the blame. Their statement is groundless, intolerant, and harmful.
