Despite the so-called apologies by Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson for blaming liberal groups for the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, the same ignorant and hateful theme continues to be echoed by others.

In passing House Bill 508, the Ohio General Assembly displayed a disgusting responsiveness to selfish corporate lobbyists. This shafting of average citizens illustrates the need for campaign finance reform.

Some people try to portray Presidents John Adams and John Quincy Adams as though they would be members of the Religious Right if they were alive today. But both of them would have little regard for the Religious Right.

In supporting governmental promotion of religion, some people say the absence of religion contributes to immorality and disrespect for law in society. They ignore the fact that government’s involvement with religion has a history of corrupting both religion and morality.

Although political candidates often proudly claim to have strong religious beliefs, those statements aren’t an indication of whether they will act ethically in government.
